As a part of COLA's fitness regime, along with the year 11 PE class, a number of excursions were set to visit Rudy's gym. There, they completed a series of boxing and cardio exercises, making up a 40-50 minute workout, before taking time to talk. It was great to see absolutely everyone getting involved and giving their all. Taking part in endless jabs, hooks, push-ups, high punches, planks, and many other different boxing exercises. It was extremely strenuous and intense and gave great rewards, after the sore muscles subsided. The workouts put a twist on both the classes usual activities of cardio and/or boxing, learning many new exercises and techniques.
They were even able to meet a couple of professional fighters that take classes at the gym, and heard about many other famous basketballers, footballers and boxers that Rudy coached. This all ran into discussions afterwards of personal growth, and the work that gets put in to achieve. They talked about the importance of value in communication, commitment, culture and other necessities in teams and in yourself that apply to achieving anything in life. This also linked to what COLA's program strives towards.
Overall the workouts have been extremely successful, everyone noticeably taking what they learnt at Rudy's and applying it to schoolwork and everyday life. The workouts have been exhausting and intense, but as everyone puts in their best, the rewards are worth it every time. We look forward to carrying on with some of the new exercises we learnt, applying the same enthusiastic ethic to continue in our weekly boxing sessions in class. The lessons everyone leant were so valuable and the effort that was put in was impeccable. We all look forward to going back to Rudy's and being exhausted all over again.
