Leila Rose Foundation - Pink Out of Uniform Day

Leila Rose ‘Out of uniform-pink day’

Last week on Friday the 14th of August students as well as teachers were encouraged to wear pink and bring a gold coin donation to school.  As a result $300 was donated to the Leila Rose Foundation, a project set-up to create awareness and support for children with rare cancer. The foundation was created by the parents of Leila, a girl unfortunately diagnosed with one of the rare forms of cancer. After Leila’s passing in 2011 aged only 22 months, the project has since escalated beyond Warrnambool and its surrounding districts.

Warrnambool’s local morning FM radio hosts Matty Stewart and Matty Monk created the Leila Rose ‘All-star football game’ held last Sunday the 16th of August in contribution to the foundation. This involved teams created from Ex-AFL stars as well as Warrnambool locals with Jordan Lewis and Mick Malthouse coaching their selective teams. Over $80,000 was raised from this event.

Succeed Fundraiser – Ribbon Day

Congratulations to the Succeed team on organising a successful fundraising event yesterday.  It was great to observe a sea of colour as the school community dressed up to support our chosen charities.  In total, $414.50 was raised to support the following charities:

White Ribbon Day – Australia’s campaign to stop violence against women.

Blue Ribbon Day – To remember members of the Victoria Police killed in the line of duty.  Funds go to new and improved emergency facilities in public hospitals named in memory of fallen Police officers.

Yellow Ribbon Day – A symbol of life and hope.  Suicide Prevention Program.

I would like to extend thanks and acknowledge the efforts of our Succeed senior leaders, Shona McGuigan and Jake Tanner, who have shown themselves to be outstanding leaders within our school.  Shona and Jake can always be relied upon and are well respected by the school community.  Whenever something needs to be done, they quietly roll up their sleeves and get the job done.  They certainly lead by example and I would like to thank them for the smooth running of our charity event.  Well done to both of you.

I would also like to acknowledge the work of our Junior leaders, Taine DeManser and Kaitlyn Fowler, along with all house members.  In Succeed we’ve adopted a “No Opt Out” policy, which means that everyone contributes and everyone is part of what we do.  It was great to see everyone chip in and be part of a worthwhile cause.

Yesterday’s fundraiser was definitely a collaborative effort.  Everyone in Succeed contributed in some manner, whether it was making posters for promotion, collecting donations, making the delicious cupcakes and jelly, selling the food at the canteen, cleaning up or running the dress-up parade.  As always it was fantastic to see so many students make an effort to support our dress up days for charity.  There were lots of great costumes and it was great to see students get into the spirit of the day.

Thank you to everyone who supported our charities.
