YEAR 3/4 BIKE EDUCATION PROGRAM
In Year 3/4 students participate in Bike Ed. Bike Ed is a program designed to educate students in bike safety. They engage in theory sessions as well as practical sessions on our Bike Ed track, local shared pathways and local roads. They are shown how to correctly adjust and wear their helmets, how to ensure that their bicycles are safe for riding, responsible riding practises and how to safely use shared pathways and roads with other users. Sessions are fun and engaging and we believe it is an essential part of a student’s development as a future road user. They become more aware of their surroundings as they are riding, learn and use correct riding and signalling techniques as well as the importance of communicating not only to each other, but pedestrians and drivers of vehicles also.
YEAR 8 & 9 BIKE EDUCATION
Every year in Terms Three & Four students from Years 8 & 9 elected to participate in a Bike Education program designed to increase skills such as traffic awareness, safe handling of their bicycle under a variety of environmental conditions, bike maintenance as well improving their general fitness and wellbeing. Students undertake up to eight sessions which are fully supervised by Bike Ed. accredited staff.
A major component of the program is a three day bike camp where students ride anywhere from 140 - 170km along some breathing taking scenery such as parts of the Great Ocean Road or the Grampians. This camp is quite challenging although highly rewarding for all of its participants.
