Last Friday the bus left school at 9 o’clock to take us to the Sungold Field Days at Allansford. We collected lots of free things from stalls, like miniature cows, bags, pens, pencils and stickers. We had a ride around the Field Day on a train. When we had our snack there was a man singing songs on the stage and some of us danced to his music. We got to eat free food and drink, such as flavoured milk, slushies and sausages in bread. We visited lots of stalls and saw tractors, animals, farm machines etc.

Wednesday 10th February 2016 at the Lighthouse Theatre in Warrnambool the 2015 Youth Achiever Awards for Warrnambool City Council and Moyne Shire were announced. Congratulations to Tiffany McLauchlan for being nominated in the Arts & Culture category, and to Shakaya McCrae Wilson and Isaac Wareham for their nominations in the Sport category.
It was exciting that three Mortlake College students were nominated for awards but there was more excitement at the end of the evening when the overall awards were announced and Isaac Wareham was announced as the overall Moyne male Youth Achiever of the Year. The MC for the evening, Matty Monk, read out a long list of Isaac’s achievements in 2015 and Isaac is certainly is a very worthy winner. Isaac’s mother, Jacinta accepted the award on his behalf because Isaac is currently at the School for Student Leadership in Marlo and was unable to attend the evening. Congratulations Isaac, Tiffany and Shakaya!
Congratulations also to our Moyne Youth Council members- Bree Kirkwood, Jackie Cooper, Gerald Monteith and Cooper Lower who all played an important role on the night and over many months leading into the presentations.
The Year 12 retreat held at Deakin University last Wednesday was very successful. Our Year 12 students approached the day in a positive manner and all felt that the day was valuable. One key message that came out of the English lectures was that, when two-thirds of the course involves close study of texts it makes sense to really know the texts thoroughly and that if you are prepared to re-read them and really think about them you can gain a significant advantage. In the Study Skills sessions there was lots of good advice and plenty of ‘tips’ but the importance of using study time effectively and maintaining a balance between study and recreation was emphasised by the different speakers.
